Cool Out on your Modern Charlotte Patio
Submitted by Gail Jodon on July 14, 2010 - 11:41pmOne thing we all love about Mid-Century Modern homes are their seamless connection to Nature! Over-sized glass sliders open onto expansive patios - so of course you will want to glam your patio with cool modern gear.
Some of my fave patio furniture pieces are from Russel Woodard's "Sculptura" Line. Check out eBay. www.JetSetModern.com had the settee and 4 chairs for sale. yum.

BMW art car at the Bechtler May 10-17
Submitted by Gail Jodon on May 11, 2010 - 1:27amBMW's first art car, designed in 1975 by Alexander Calder will be on display in the lobby May 10 thru May 17th of the fabulous Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. Perfect timing and gives the opening of the much anticipated NASCAR Hall of Fame opening on May 11, a definite Modern Charlotte twist. The NASCAR Hall of Fame is only 2 blocks away- so go make a day of it and get a $2 discount at the museums.
This fab art car will then head to France and join in the deput of the 17th BMW Art Car. The newest Art Car will be done by prominent contemporary artist Jeff Koons and will race in the 24 hours of Le Mans. Cool.
While at the Bechtler, check out other works by Calder, possibly best known for his fabulous, colorful mobile sculptures.
Triangle Modernist Houses ModShop in Charlotte
Submitted by Gail Jodon on April 16, 2010 - 7:07pmOur friend George Smart is heading a Mod Shop event to Charlotte to visit IKEA and DesignWithinReach. They will also be touring the fabulous modern Bernstein estate in Pellyn Wood. Designed by Lawrence A. Bernstein for his brother Mark Bernstein in 1970. Currently listed (and under contract) by yours truly at Modern Charlotte Realty.
The propspective new owner has a wonderful renovation and restoration planned and hopefully will be on hand to share his vision for the house. The current owner has been adament about not selling to anyone that had plans to demolish this home designed by a Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesan Fellow architect. Thanks to Joe and Carol Gigler for keeping this wonderful example of modernism out of harms way !
