modern charlotte loves the mid-century modern homes of the cloisters
Submitted by Gail Jodon on January 31, 2010 - 7:57pmI don't know of any other neighborhood of Charlotte that is home to more mid-century modern homes than the Cloisters. Lovers of modernist homes in Charlotte started buying these homes in the early 2000's. Consequently, the Clositers has become a showcase for true mid-century modern architecture.
Making Mid-Century Modern Homes Energy Effecient
Submitted by Gail Jodon on January 28, 2010 - 1:07amIn Charlotte, if you are looking for a modern home, you will be choosing from an inventory of resale mid-century modern homes that were built in the 1950's and 1960's. (sadly, we just don't have many new construction modern homes). So you've found the perfect "atomic ranch" and ask to see the energy bills and fall over from shock.

So let's start with the positive.
modern charlotte loves mod burb Lansdowne
Submitted by Gail Jodon on January 18, 2010 - 12:15amLansdowne is truly one of the best kept secrets of Charlotte for it's inventory of mid-century modern homes. The Lansdowne neighborhood was built primarily in the post modern 1950's and 1960's, has large lots, tree lined streets and sidewalks. The neighborhood has a number of original owner homes, but these homes are beginning to change hands to young home owners that are doing some fabulous mod renovations.
Lansdowne is considered a southwest neighborhood of Charlotte and is bordered by Lansdowne Rd and Sardis Lane to the north and south. Sardis Rd and Providence Rd to the east and west. Jefferson Park and Mammouth Oaks neighborhoods join Lansdowne to the north and adds to the inventory of Mid-Century Modern homes!
Mid-Century Modern Art in Charlotte
Submitted by Gail Jodon on January 16, 2010 - 10:27pm
You better get yourself down to the new Bechtler Musum of Modern Art, right here in Uptown Charlotte. The museum opened Jan 2, 2010 and was packed on opening day. I loved seeing such a great opening crowd.
The collection is FAB and includes work by Joan Miro, Picasso, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder, Le Corbusier and Max Ernst, to name a few. My favorites were the amazing textiles. Unbelievable!
