Mid-Century Modern Art in Charlotte

You better get yourself down to the new Bechtler Musum of Modern Art, right here in Uptown Charlotte. The museum opened Jan 2, 2010 and was packed on opening day. I loved seeing such a great opening crowd.

The collection is FAB and includes work by Joan Miro, Picasso, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder, Le Corbusier and Max Ernst, to name a few. My favorites were the amazing textiles. Unbelievable!

The building was designed by the renowned Swiss architect, Mario Botta who also did the SF MoMA (my old hometown). It is a beautiful terra cotta tile minimalist design with a cantilevered fourth floor gallery hanging over a plaza with a column in the middle.

The Bechtler is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am-5pm; Sundays 12-5. Closed on tuesdays. $8 adults, $6 senoirs $4 for kids (11-14)
